The Workshop on Empirical Research with Pedagogical Agents will bring together researchers in artificial intelligence, cognitive psychology, video game technologies, social science, and education to discuss the past and future of pedagogical agent research. The broad aims of the workshop are to both reflect and summarize where the field stands and what we have learned, discuss related social and learning theories, and propose new directions and future roles for intelligent virtual agent technologies. The workshop program will consist of research presentations from leading researchers from across varying disciplines, as well as demos, discussion periods, and a panel.
WERPA is the third in a series of workshops addressing issues related advanced learning technologies. The first (in 2006) focused on the intersection of intelligent tutoring and games, and the second (in 2008) explored the vision expressed in The Diamond Age by Neil Stephenson to build intelligent lifelong learning companions.
